In 2008, Joe Lucas, owner and Principal of Lucas Studio, Inc. opened Harbinger, his first to-the-trade showroom in Los Angeles, with then-partner Parrish Chilcoat. Located in the heart of the La Cienega Design Quarter, Harbinger is a multi-line showroom that carries an eclectic mix of textiles, wallpapers, lighting and furniture, along with antiques and other vintage finds from around the world. The Harbinger assortment expanded further with the launch of Harbinger by Hand, Joe’s own furniture collection, designed and manufactured in Los Angeles, CA.
Known for a classic east coast traditional style meets West Coast cool, Traditional Home magazine named Lucas Studio, Inc. one of the “Top 20 Young Design Firms to Watch” in 2009. House Beautiful magazine recognized the firm as one of their American Design Trailblazers in 2011. The firm has completed residential projects in Los Angeles, Montana, Florida, Chicago, Memphis, Philadelphia and several houses in Rumson, Little Silver and Bay Head, NJ. Current work includes ground up construction projects located in New Jersey, Seattle and throughout the greater Los Angeles area.
In 2018, Joe opened a second Harbinger location - Harbinger New York - in the New York Design Center. This showroom offers interior designers on the East Coast his signature mix of antiques, furniture and lighting, along with a curated collection of fabrics, wallpaper and other interesting finds.
Harbinger has hosted a large number of industry events throughout the years, and the showroom is a must-see destination for designers across the country who appreciate Joe and his team’s hospitality and expertise.

Joe began his design career working for the antiques dealer and designer Claudia Benvenuto, and later worked for several years under Michael S. Smith on many notable projects. He is an Executive Board member of the La Cienega Design Quarter and a member of the Leaders of Design Council and the Design Leadership Network.
Joe splits his time between Los Angeles, New York, and the Santa Ynez Valley
