Fanny is a designer and printmaker. Her distinctive, detailed work is largely inspired by her very English upbringing. She grew up in the quintessentially English county town of Winchester, surrounded by historic architecture and idyllic countryside. Her childhood home was filled with vibrant, idiosyncratic, colourful prints and patterns on books, plates, cushions, rugs and wallpaper. Rural, country holidays reinforced her love of nature and frequent childhood visits to the V&A, the Natural History Museum and National Trust properties formed an enduring influence on her designs and how her work is manufactured.
Fanny originally trained as an illustrator at Brighton University and her clients included Twinings, the Cutty Sark, the Wellcome Collection and Mr Jones Watches. In 2011 she established her eponymous range of textiles, prints and accessories from her studio at Cockpit Arts in London.
Fanny Shorter’s work has its roots in traditional British craftsmanship and design, but is unmistakably contemporary. Fanny’s original artwork is used to screen-print bold, high-quality, timeless textiles and wallcoverings that reflect the nuance of printing by hand.
